E-Learning courseware

Bournemouth Adult Learning undertook a project to investigate alternative approaches to supporting learners with hearing impairment in a classroom environment. One part of this project was the creation of a course in digital photography and photo editing.

digital photography coursewarestudioVerse developed a highly interactive course featuring animation, software simulations and task-based activities. The course was designed to provide the learner with the option of video footage of a signer (British Sign Language) to accompany each topic. Learners can navigate through each topic and fast-forward or rewind to a particular section using a control panel.

At a technical level this presented several issues, including the need to load and synchronise independent media clips. The course was authored in Adobe® Flash®, using Flash Video and ActionScript.

"Working to a tight remit, timescale and budget, managed and delivered a high quality final course enabling Bournemouth Adult Learning to extend their work with the Deaf community. The resulting course is now generating interest in other areas of the UK particularly in Deaf schools and centres."
